Scout Troop will provide all tents and stoves with pots (unless of course you have your own an wish to use – but remember, it has to be lightweight).

The ‘old hands’ at Zodiacs also often bring a sit mat or small lightweight tripod stool.   Some also bring an MP3 player for early nights if cold – but, remember it will be in your rucksack and tent so your responsibility.

Food is often down to individual preferences but here are some simple guidelines to be followed –

  • Try to make sure the food you have does not take a long time to cook (no dry pasta or rice)
  • Ready cooked meals that can be re-heated in a pan or pre-cooked rice or pasta with sauce are ideal.
  • A hot drink is essential  e.g. hot orange, hot chocolate (remember you may want two drinks at night and one in the morning)
  • For breakfast,  bacon is better than sausages as it requires less cooking.
  • Instant porridge is a good warm up food for breakfast
  • Cereal is not really any use as it requires milk
  • Think light – tins are too heavy.

For these activities, it’s also really handy to have small containers for cooking oil (if intending to fry) and some washing up liquid.
